A Note on Language

You'll notice I use "humxn" instead of "human" throughout this book. This isn't a typo!

I've replaced the "a" with "x" to remove "man" from "human." It's my way of creating language that includes everyone, regardless of gender identity. This small change reflects my belief that words matter and shape how we see ourselves and each other.

At my company Only Humxn, we use this spelling to signal our commitment to inclusivity. The "x" works like a neutral gender marker, making space for all of us in our most basic vocabulary.

In a story about identity, memory, and connection, it felt especially important to use language that welcomes everyone to the conversation.
